ICS@PSU: Institute for CyberScience

Who We Are

ICS@PSU plays an important role across most disciplines and in many instances brings a higher order of interdisciplinarity that can facilitate cyber-enabled advances in areas with an abundance of experimental and theoretical expertise.

In 2011 an intra-university Cyberscience Task Force was established to develop a strategic and coherent vision for cyberscience at Penn State. On the recommendations of this taskforce, the Institute for CyberScience was established in 2012 through the Office of the Vice President for Research as a peer to the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences, the Materials Research Institute, the Penn State Institutes of Energy and the Environment, and the Social Sciences Research Institute.

Starting in 2012-2013 ICS has been coordinating a cluster hiring initiative in partnership with Penn State Colleges and Institutes. Click Here to meet our outstanding new faculty co-hires.

In 2014, Executive Vice President and Provost Nick Jones and Interim Vice President for Research Neil Sharkey initiated a series of steps designed to help Penn State deliver the broad spectrum of computing and data services that are required to advance research. As part of this process ICS will develop and sustain advanced cyberinfrastructure that seek to accelerate outcomes from research by enhancing researcher productivity.
