ICDS is pleased to welcome these distinguished guests to this year’s symposium.

Chaitanya Baru, PhD

Dr. Chaitanya Baru is the Senior Science Advisor in the Convergence Accelerator Office, Office of the Director, NSF (having earlier served as an Expert from April to August 2019). He is there on assignment from the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC), University of California, San Diego. He previously served at NSF, as Senior Advisor for Data Science in the Computer and Information Science and Engineering Directorate, from August 2014-2018. Dr. Baru has worked on translational and applied research in computer science and data science at SDSC since 1996, where he has served in a number of leadership positions. He has previously worked at IBM, on the DB2 Parallel Edition development team and served as a faculty member in the EECS Department at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He has an ME and PhD in Electrical Engineering (Computer Engineering) from the University of Florida and a BTech in Electronics Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.

Shantenu Jha, PhD

Shantenu Jha is the inaugural Chair of the Computation and Data Driven Discovery (C3D) Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory and Associate Professor of Computer Engineering at Rutgers University. His research interests are at the intersection of high-performance distributed computing and computational & data science. Shantenu leads the the RADICAL-Cybertools project which are a suite of middleware building blocks used to support large-scale science and engineering applications. He was appointed a Rutgers Chancellor’s Scholar (2015) and was the recipient of the inaugural Chancellor’s Excellence in Research (2016) for his cyberinfrastructure contributions to computational science. He is a recipient of the NSF CAREER Award (2013), several prizes at SC’xy and ISC’xy as well as the winner of SCALE 2018.
