With advances in computational science, researchers are finding new solutions to major societal problems. This one-day conference, hosted by the Institute for CyberScience at Penn State, will focus on innovative computational research in the fields of Precision Health, Cybersecurity, and Smart Communities. Come hear nationally renowned speakers and be part of the discussion.

WHEN: March 30, 2018, 8 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

WHERE: Nittany Lion Inn Ballroom at Penn State’s University Park campus

Faculty, graduate students, industry, and representatives of funding agencies are welcome to attend. The symposium aims to connect researchers to potential industry partners, funders, and collaborators. Please register by Friday, March 16.

Agenda

The event will feature:

  • Keynote Speaker Jim Kurose, Assistant Director of NSF’s Computer and Information Science and Engineering Directorate
  • Keynote Speaker Greg Cooper, Professor of Biomedical Informatics and Intelligent Systems at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine
  • Panels on “Smart and Connected Communities” and “Precision Health”
  • A moderated poster session showcasing computational and data-enabled research

Fees

The event is free for Penn State personnel, including faculty, staff, and students. For other attendees, the fee is $65. Breakfast, a coffee break, and lunch will be provided. (Faculty will be asked for budget information and will only be charged the $65 fee if they no-show/no cancel)

Poster Session

If you plan on presenting at the poster session, please indicate your intent to submit a poster when you register. Posters and abstracts are due March 2.

To submit your poster, please use this Google Form. A Google account is required to use the form. If you do not have a Google account and would still like to submit, please download this form and follow the instructions for submitting.

Posters must be 48” x 36”. Accepted posters received before the March 2 deadline will be printed free of charge on fabric, and are free to keep at the end of the event.

Students submitting posters may participate in a competition to win two $750 travel awards to attend the SuperComputing 2018 conference (Nov. 11-16, Dallas, TX). Faculty can also participate; faculty who win will elect a student to receive the award. The posters will be judged by at least two independent reviewers, who will score the scientific significance, the quality of the poster, and the presentation.
