ICS offers training sessions for high-performance computing

The Institute for CyberScience (ICS) announces a series of training sessions during the 2017-18 academic year for researchers who use Penn State’s high-performance research cloud, the Advanced CyberInfrastructure (ICS-ACI). The series helps beginning users of ICS-ACI get started and, for intermediate users, showcases best practices for using ICS-ACI efficiently.

“ICS-ACI is a powerful and valuable resource for Penn State researchers,” said Jenni Evans, director of ICS. “Both new and seasoned users of the system will find these training seminars helpful for their research and professional development.”

During spring 2018 ICS will hold training seminars on three topics. In “ICS System Basics,” users learn how to get an ICS account and are introduced to ICS-ACI’s various subsystems. In “Introduction to HPC,” users learn how to run jobs, compile and parallelize codes, and move data on ICS-ACI. In “Intermediate HPC,” users will learn about multi-system/user development and understanding/boosting code performance. A laptop is required for the “Introduction to HPC” and “Intermediate HPC” seminars.
