I have some really exciting news that I want to share with you. The Institute for CyberScience has some new developments under way. Chief among them is the introduction of the Institute for CyberScience Advanced CyberInfrastructure or ICS-ACI. While we will continue to service and improve our existing systems, such as the Lion-X clusters, we have acquired nearly 6,000 new cores of compute power and have begun onboarding PIs to our new systems.
Let me share some of the major features of ICS-ACI with you, and then I encourage you to visit our new section of the website dedicated to ICS-ACI for more information about our systems, our service models, and how to sign up for your account.
The New System
Of the 16,000 cores ICS-ACI operates, we have recently added 4,800 standard-memory and 960 high-memory cores. The new systems provide standard batch and customizable, interactive modes for subscribers. For detailed information about the new systems’ compute resources, storage, facilities, and management, visit https://ics.psu.edu/advanced-cyberinfrastructure.
The Access Models
Researchers gain access to the new infrastructure through one of three ways. The primary access model is our Guaranteed-Response Time or GReaT model. PIs may choose standard- or high-memory cores and specify the number of years for which they want access.
If researchers want to try out the computing environment for up to a month to see whether it will meet their needs, they may do so under our Try ICS-ACI model at no cost.
The Explore model provides short-term, no-cost access to compute resources for PIs attempting proof of concept or strategic, exploratory research.
Who to Contact
If you would like to know more about ICS-ACI or would like to discuss your needs, please contact us at email@example.com. ICS also provides support for proposal and grant writing. If you are writing a proposal and need support regarding compute resources, storage, or services, we can help.
We have been working for almost a year to make ICS-ACI available, and I want to say how proud I am of the ICS staff and how much I appreciate their hard work. Thanks also to the ICS Coordinating Committee for their hard work and dedication and to our Vice President for Research Neil A. Sharkey. I especially want to thank our Executive Vice President and Provost Nicholas P. Jones for his generous support and for subsidizing the bulk of the cost to our researchers.
