ICS-ACI used to study ancient macaw breeding

Richard George, a graduate student in anthropology at Penn State, utilized the ICS- Advanced CyberInfrastructure to sequence the mitochondrial DNA of bird remains found in the Chaco Canyon and Mimbres areas of New Mexico. Their studies discovered that macaw’s hadn’t been taken from their natural habitats and transported, but there is evidence that the macaws were being bred in the American Southwest or northern Mexico.
