HPC Opportunities for Penn State Students

What kinds of internships does ICS offer?

We often seek graduate assistants and interns to assist our Operations team in running our i-ASK Center help desk. These interns answer questions that Penn State researchers may have while using ICDS-ACI, our high-performance computing system, and may also produce documentation about the system. We also incorporate interns into our communications team to assist with web content generation, marketing, graphic design, and social media. The types of internships ICDS has open vary from semester to semester.

The Institute for CyberScience (ICS) seeks a Business Analyst Graduate Student to join our administrative team. This person will be an integral contributor to a fast-paced and growing team of specialists at an institute supported by an exciting $60 million Penn State investment in research cyberinfrastructure. Penn State’s elite researchers use our high-performance research cloud to solve real-world problems by conducting simulations, data mining, and other high-performance computing operations. The experience and skills gained by our graduate students is a highly sought-after skillset by future employers.

This graduate student position is a wage payroll with salary dependent upon experience, for the 2019 fall semester. There is an excellent possibility for 2020 spring renewal, as well as a potential to become a graduate assistantship (GA).

As our Business Analyst Graduate Student, you will work as part of our team to: support business analysis and provide research services including compiling and analyzing data from multiple sources and developing summaries, reports, and recommendations on a wide variety of topics including strategic planning, quality improvement, performance measurement, and business modeling. Duties are performed at various levels within the defined title.

This position requires an MBA student in good standing. Desired skills include: Experience in strategic/business planning; Experience with researching topics and developing summary reports; Very good communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills. Preferred Skills: The ability to pick up and learn general concepts and high-performance technologies quickly and independently.
