ICS@PSU: Institute for CyberScience

Test Your Login

Once you have gone through the account sign up process and obtained your new ICS Account, ICS provides an opportunity for you to test whether your ICS account and two-factor authentication will work on the ICS systems. Here are some quick instructions to follow.

You will need your Penn State WebAccess login credentials, your Duo Two-Factor Authentication account, and you will need to have created your new ICS account. If you have not gotten your new account, please request an account on this page and then return.

Mac/Unix/Linux Users

1. Open Terminal or access the command line and enter “ssh yourusername@2fa.ics.psu.edu” (replacing “yourusername” with your PSU Access ID, such as dws211).

2. Enter your Penn State Access ID password that you use for WebAccess.

3. Choose your desired Duo Two-Factor Authentication method. Option 1 should send a push notification to your phone and allow you to approve your login from the notification. The other options give you a passcode to enter.

Once you authenticate using Duo, you see a message saying “Congratulations! You have successfully completed the account sign up process and the Duo Two-Factor authentication signup.”

You are now ready to log onto all of the ACI systems.

Windows Users

1. Open PuTTY (available for download here).

2. Enter the hostname 2fa.ics.psu.edu.

3. You may set your username by entering “session configuration,” clicking “Connection,” then “Data.”

4. To configure X11 forwarding, select “Connection,” then “SSH,” then “X11,” and make sure the “Enable X11 forwarding” box is checked.

5. You may then return to the Session category and click [Open] when you are ready to connect to the specified machine.

Once you authenticate using Duo, you see a message saying “Congratulations! You have successfully completed the account sign up process and the Duo Two-Factor authentication signup.”

You are now ready to log onto all of the ACI systems.

If you need assistance accessing the systems, please submit a ticket at our web help desk https://iask.aci.ics.psu.
