ICS@PSU: Institute for CyberScience

Accounts

Here you can request an account to access ICS-ACI. If you are an external collaborator of a Penn State researcher, make sure you follow the instructions for obtaining a Slim access account below before requesting an ICS account.

For Penn State Researchers

Each person who wishes to use ICS-ACI must have an account and a Principal Investigator (PI), under whom they are authorized to perform research. Each user must sign up for an account (or renew their account).

To request an account, fill out the brief form at https://accounts.aci.ics.psu.edu/users/.

If necessary, an email will be sent to your advisor/instructor/sponsor for verification after you request an account. Once the process is complete, you will receive a confirmation email, and you will also need to sign up for Duo two-factor authentication below.

For External Collaborators

If you are not at Penn State, but collaborating with a Penn State researcher, you will need a PSU Slim Access Account before you can obtain an ICS account. A Slim account will provide you with a valid Penn State user ID and password. To obtain a Slim account, please fill out the form on the Slim Access Account Request page.

Once you receive a Slim account, email Derek Leydig at dml129@psu.edu to request an ICS account.

After you request an account, if necessary an email will be sent to your advisor/instructor/sponsor for verification. Once the process is complete, you will receive a confirmation email, and you will also need to sign up for Duo two-factor authentication below.

If you already have a Penn State user ID and password, you do not need a Slim account and may follow the instructions for Penn State Researchers above.

Two-Factor Authentication

Our computing systems require two-factor authentication to log in. As a result, you will need to sign up for the University’s Duo two-factor authentication system.

If you have not already done so, please go to http://identity.psu.edu/services/authentication-services/two-factor/self-service-portal/ and follow the instructions. You’ll find a video explaining how to use Duo with a smartphone, as well as instructions for users wanting to use Duo with landline phones, tokens, or other means.

When logging in to ICS-ACI, you’ll first need to input your Penn State user ID and password. Then, you will verify your identity using Duo. There are several options for verifying with Duo, including inputting a randomly generated passcode, responding to a prompt sent to your smartphone, or answering a phone call. Once you verify, you will log in.

If you need assistance enrolling in two-factor authentication or have problems with your Duo account, please contact your area’s IT support or the IT Service Desk at 814-865-4357 or email IT Service Desk.

If you are having trouble enrolling in Duo with an international phone number, please send a request to identity@psu.edu with the following information listed:

Your Access Account UserID
Your country code + phone number
Your smartphone OS platform (iOS, Android, etc)

This will automatically create a ticket in ServiceNow, and ITS will address your issue.
